Out of respect for the Blessed Sacrament and the august Sacrifice of the Mass, Catholics should endeavor to dress their very best for Mass. At Holy Mass, Jesus Christ, the Incarnate God-Man, our divine Spouse, comes to visit us. At the wedding of two earthly spouses, no expense is spared that the bride and groom look their very best. We also should adorn ourselves exteriorly to mirror our good interior dispositions. Again, at Mass, we come to Calvary where our God died for us admist the most terrible torments. When we come to Mass, let us not be concerned with our own comfort but let us offer God the sacrifice of our entire selves. Let us not be a distraction for our neighbor by eccentric, flashy, or immodest dress. Let us come to meet our God and King properly dressed.
For Men and Boys
Men and boys (at least those who have made their 1st Communion) should wear dress slacks, dress shirt, dress jacket, and tie (i.e. essentially suit and tie or equivalent formal attire). This is the style of clothing that is reflective of the dignity of a Christian man.
